MARIE DAOU is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Montpellier, specialized in the history of economic thought with a particular focus on Jacques Rueff, a central figure in French economic theory. She earned her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in 2018, where her dissertation examined the intellectual foundations of Rueff’s economic ideas and their enduring relevance.
Her research explores the intersection of economic theory, institutional frameworks, and legal systems, with an emphasis on early 20th-century thought. Her recent work has integrated an ordoliberal perspective to examine Rueff’s influence on key debates about market regulation, the role of the state, and European economic integration. This approach highlights how Rueff’s ideas, aligned with the ordoliberal focus on strong institutional and legal foundations, continue to provide valuable insights into issues of economic stability, regulation, and social justice.
An active member of the academic community, she collaborates on several interdisciplinary projects, particularly around themes of commodification and the foundations of economic and social order. She has published extensively in leading academic journals and has contributed chapters to several collective volumes.
Beyond her research and teaching, she promotes dialogue across disciplines within economics, co-organizing national and international conferences focused on the history of economic thought and pluralism.
