Keith Tribe studied sociology at the University of Essex 1968-71 and then for his postgraduate work in Cambridge studied the relation of English political economy to agrarian capitalism, gaining his doctorate in 1977. He was employed at Keele University from 1976, retiring as Reader in Economics in 2002, following which he worked as a rowing coach and professional translator. He is currently Associate Professor of History, University of Tartu, Estonia. From January 2024 he will join Ere Nokkala’s ERC project studying the politics and economics of Sweden in the Age of Liberty. He has recently published an edition of Max Weber, Economy and Society. A New Translation (Harvard University Press, 2019), and Constructing Economic Science. The Invention of a Discipline 1850-1950 (Oxford University Press, 2022).
